Hunting English Springer Spaniels
AKC English Springer Spaniels

Here at HUNTER'S KENNEL & PHEASANTRY we have been raising and training hunting dogs since 1987. It is important for the English Springer Spaniels that we breed to have and to be able to pass on the following characteristics:

  • Excellent temperament, which is essential for training and tolerance of children
  • Affection, which gives the desire to please and to play with children
  • Health. is a must, puppies that are free from genetic deficiencies grow into energetic, healthy dogs
  • Confirmation, helps to achieve excellent build and appearance of the breed
  • Hunting instinct can not be taught it can only be brought out of the dog that has breeding from A-1 hunting lines

Over the years we have been successful at producing quality pure bred AKC registered puppies. All of our male dogs are DNA registered with AKC. We continuously look at what we have and are producing, to see ways to build upon and improve our blood lines. Mr. Miles placed in Ohio Pheasants Forever State Hunt Challenge January 2013.

Mr. Miles has an excellent nose quickly locating pheasants to flush then finding downed birds with flawless retrieves. Miles superior run gave him a high score and he took 2nd place at Ohio Rifle & Pistol Association’s 2014 Hunt Challenge in March.

English springer spaniel

The English springer spaniel is a breed of gun dog traditionally used for flushing and retrieving game. English springer spaniels are an affectionate, excitable breed with an average lifespan of twelve to fourteen years. Descended from the Norfolk or Shropshire Spaniels of the mid 1800s, the springer spaniel has diverged into separate show and working lines. The English springer spaniel suffers from average health complaints. It is closely related to the Welsh springer spaniel and very closely with the English Cocker Spaniel. In fact less than a century ago, springers and cockers would come from the same litter. English springer spaniel is commonly used as sniffer dogs by various nations. The term springer comes from their historic hunting role, where the dogs would "spring" or "flush" birds into the air.

The English springer spaniel is a medium sized compact dog. The springer spaniel coat is moderately long with feathering on the legs and tail. The English springer spaniel is a well proportioned, balanced dog with a gentle expression and a friendly wagging tail. The English springer spaniel is similar to the English Cocker Spaniel and at first glance the only major difference is the latter's smaller size. However English Springers also tend to have shorter and higher-set ears than English Cockers. In addition English Springer spaniels also tend to have a longer muzzle, their eyes are not as prominent and the coat is less abundant. Males English springer spaniels average approximately 18 to 20 inches in height and weigh on average 50 to 55 lb.
