My 3rd year going to Iowa back when I still had German Shorthairs pictured on far left and would
rotate dogs in the field from pointers to flushers (English Springer Spaniels). Center is Hunter's
Miss "Ivy" and right is Hunter's Black "Olive".

Ella left as a young dog in Iowa taking a break during a pheasant hunt, left Brittney who held up well
especially for being 11 years old at the time of this photo.

In Iowa with temps in upper 60s which made it rather warm for the Hunter

The only triple of pheasants I ever shot was on this day, and the dogs saved my triple as three
pheasants went down in separate areas one unknowingly over the edge of a very steep river bank where
the dogs could not wind it. With persistence a little wind must have shifted and brought sent up over
the river bank and a dog retrieved my 3rd bird.

This year I made a second hunting trip to Iowa as I wanted to do a winter hunt, it ended up being a very challenging
pheasant hunt. The pheasants were extremely flighty, when even slowing a vehicle down would spoke pheasants 500 yards
or more away, getting out of vehicle with out sending pheasants to flight was nearly impossible. We found that we needed
to park a half mile down the road and ever so quietly get out of the vehicle and walk to road. Once in the field the snow
crunched and again would send pheasants several hundred yards away to flight. Once a shot was fired there was not a
pheasant within a half a mile, and that's when we decided to take a few rabbits. FYI the bird dogs still dutifully hunted
birds and did not get side tracked on rabbits.

The gang after a big day of quail hunting, they found and retrieved every quail that went down, not one lost bird. Kudos to
the dogs for doing such great work, the hunters shot well but not a 100% like the Springers did. Dogs from left Mr. Miles, Leah
and Taffy (Aka Pecan Pie).
|
Mr. Miles left checking out Taffy, both held up very well with drive, desire to hunt & flush all the way through a five hour qail hunt.
